This alcohol-free smoothie brings pineapple, coconut and banana together. Use coconut milk for a richer base or a coconut drink for a different consistency; check the carton or tin so you know which you have.
Makes: about 2 small glasses. Equipment: a blender, measuring utensils and clean glasses.
Use a 240 ml measuring cup for the fruit quantities below; the liquid amounts are listed in millilitres.
Ingredients
- 1 measuring cup (240 ml capacity) fresh pineapple flesh, skin and tough core removed
- 1 ripe banana, peeled
- 180 ml coconut milk or coconut drink suitable for your diet
- 60 ml pineapple juice or drinking water
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup, optional
- A small squeeze of lime, optional
- A few ice cubes, optional, if your blender can crush ice
- Ready-made sea moss gel — measure separately for each person using the current jar’s directions
Use the serving instructions for your own gel, including any daily limit. If the amount is unclear, ask us before adding it.
Method
- Wash the fruit before preparing it. Use clean hands, utensils and a clean blender jug.
- Add the pineapple, banana, coconut milk or coconut drink, and juice or water to the blender. Add the optional maple syrup and ice if suitable for the appliance.
- Blend following your appliance’s instructions. Add a little extra juice or water if you want a thinner drink, and a squeeze of lime if you like.
- Divide between two glasses. Measure gel for each person according to the current jar’s serving directions and stir thoroughly into their glass. Return the gel jar to the fridge.
- Serve immediately. If one person drinks the whole batch, use only their label-directed gel amount. Two glasses do not mean two gel servings for the same person.
Choose your coconut base
Coconut milk and coconut drinks vary between products, so use the name and ingredients on the pack. Start with the listed amount and adjust with the juice or water. Check the coconut base and gel separately for dietary requirements.
Does it contain alcohol?
No alcoholic ingredient is included in this recipe. It is a piña colada-style fruit smoothie, rather than a cocktail recipe with rum.
Which sea moss gel should you use?
Use ready-made gel that is within its date and has been stored according to the jar. Golden Gel contains golden sea moss, spring water and lime. Other blends have different recipes and will change the finished smoothie’s flavour.
Check the full ingredients, warnings and dietary information in our Ingredients & Suitability guidance and on your current pack. Powder, dried moss, gummies and capsules are not direct substitutes for the gel amount in this recipe.
Serve now and keep the jar refrigerated
Prepare the smoothie when you are ready to drink it. Follow the gel jar’s date and keep it refrigerated between uses. Making a smoothie does not restart the gel’s shelf life; its jar date does not establish a storage period for the finished drink.
For jar care or a freshness concern, use our Storage & Freshness Help page. Do not taste-test a suspect jar or use fruit to cover a freshness concern.
Before using sea moss
Ask a qualified healthcare professional before use if you have a health condition, take medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are choosing for a child. Sea moss contains naturally occurring iodine; speak to your doctor before use if you have a thyroid condition or take thyroid medication.
Try another fruit combination
