Recipe

Bright citrus sea moss smoothie

Orange, banana and lemon with optional ginger: a citrus smoothie using your gel’s own serving guidance.

Jump to recipe
Orange and banana sea moss smoothie with orange and lemon alongside.

Orange and lemon give this smoothie its citrus flavour, with banana for body and optional ginger. Choose orange juice or coconut water for the liquid, then adjust the consistency to your taste.

Makes: about 1 glass. Equipment: a blender, measuring utensils and clean glasses.

Ingredients

  • 1 orange, peeled, pips removed and flesh separated
  • ½ banana, peeled
  • 120 ml orange juice or coconut water
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon peeled, freshly grated ginger, optional
  • A few ice cubes, optional, if your blender can crush ice
  • Ready-made sea moss gel — use the amount directed on your current jar for the person drinking it

Use the serving instructions for your own gel, including any daily limit. If the amount is unclear, ask us before adding it.

Method

  1. Wash the fruit before preparing it. Use clean hands, utensils and a clean blender jug.
  2. Put the prepared orange, banana, liquid, lemon juice and optional ginger in the blender.
  3. Add your gel according to its current serving directions. Return the jar to the fridge. Add ice only if your blender is designed for it.
  4. Blend using your appliance’s instructions until the fruit is combined. If it is too thick, add a little more of your chosen liquid and blend again.
  5. Pour into a glass and serve immediately. Adjust the fruit or liquid for taste, keeping the gel amount within the label’s directions.

Choose your citrus balance

Orange juice and coconut water give different results. For more sharpness, add a little extra lemon; for a thicker drink, use less liquid at first. These changes are about flavour and texture, rather than changing your gel serving.

Which sea moss gel should you use?

Use ready-made gel that is within its date and has been stored according to the jar. Golden Gel contains golden sea moss, spring water and lime. Other blends have different recipes and will change the finished smoothie’s flavour.

Check the full ingredients, warnings and dietary information in our Ingredients & Suitability guidance and on your current pack. Powder, dried moss, gummies and capsules are not direct substitutes for the gel amount in this recipe.

Serve now and keep the jar refrigerated

Prepare the smoothie when you are ready to drink it. Follow the gel jar’s date and keep it refrigerated between uses. Making a smoothie does not restart the gel’s shelf life; its jar date does not establish a storage period for the finished drink.

For jar care or a freshness concern, use our Storage & Freshness Help page. Do not taste-test a suspect jar or use fruit to cover a freshness concern.

Before using sea moss

Ask a qualified healthcare professional before use if you have a health condition, take medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are choosing for a child. Sea moss contains naturally occurring iodine; speak to your doctor before use if you have a thyroid condition or take thyroid medication.

Try another fruit combination

For a different flavour, try our strawberry and banana smoothie, using the serving instructions for your own gel.
